Misty is a lifelong teacher and a lifelong Razorback. After graduating with a master's degree from the University of Arkansas, she began her career as a junior high teacher in a suburb of Dallas. Over the next 20 years, she taught both junior and senior high to a mixture of both at-risk and advanced classes. She is a passionate advocate for the partnership between parents and schools, and she champions a robust public school while recognizing the need for viable private school options. She worked for part of her career in a classical education University Model Private school, and she has experience homeschooling her own children. As a classroom teacher, she was honored by both her peers and the student body by being named Teacher of the Year and, in 2022, she was named Teacher of the Year for the school district in which she served. This allowed her to advocate more fully for best practices to be adopted throughout the district.

As a teacher, she also served as a leader for research based curriculum design, instruction strategies, behavior integration strategies, and as both team lead and department head. As a teacher-leader, she is well-acquainted with the challenges facing schools, students, and parents. She left the classroom she loves to research policies to make all classrooms better equipped to serve students.

Misty is currently a Distinguished Doctoral Fellow and Graduate Assistant working to identify trends in school choice programs.

Misty enjoys cheering on the Razorbacks with her husband and kids, exploring the outdoors, and reading.
