Rian is the Director of Research at the Association of Christian Schools International. He is a Ph.D. candidate whose dissertation topic focuses on immigrant/first-generation college students and their postsecondary outcomes. He is a first-generation college student from Indonesia, where he taught high school math for six years. He earned his master’s degree in international education policy at Peabody Vanderbilt with a Fulbright scholarship. During his graduate school, he did several internships, including at the Tennessee Department of Education under the Research and Data team and Teachers and Leaders division and at the Center for Public Research and Leadership at Columbia University to work on a research project in the Network for School Improvement initiatives by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He was selected as one of the Emerging Education Policy Scholars (EEPS) 2023. Rian’s keen interests lie in comparative international policies around equity, international assessments, school choice, and students’ academic outcomes, particularly among immigrant/English Language Learners (ELLs) and first-generation college students.
