Rian R. Djita is a first-generation college student from Indonesia. He was a Math teacher in Indonesia for six years before deciding to pursue his master’s degree at Peabody Vanderbilt with a Fulbright Scholarship in International Education Policy and Management. During his master’s degree at Vanderbilt University, he did his internship for Spring and Summer 2019 at the Tennessee Department of Education under the Research and Data team and Teachers and Leaders division. His research interest in the equity of education for low-income students then brought him to collaborate with other graduate students at Columbia University to work on a research project in the Network for School Improvement initiatives by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the spring semester of 2020. Rian’s keen interests lie in the topic of comparative international policies around equity, International assessments, school choice, and students’ academic outcomes, particularly among English Language Learners.
